Treatment Options
Autism is a pervasive neuro-developmental spectrum disorder affecting brain
functioning. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and affect individuals
accordingly. In the past autism has been thought of as a life long disorder with
very few treatment options.

Today more and more professionals and parents have attested to having
made
grade gains and even
"recovered" their children from the symptoms that come
along with autism. Those individuals are often thought of as "indistinguishable"
from other peers. How much each individual progresses with any given form of
treatment varies greatly. Many parents contribute their child's success to a
number of interventions.

                                            Applied Behavior Analysis
Our staff uses a comprehensive approach to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
ABA is the application of behavior principles to improve skill development in all
areas of learning and self direction of children as well as adults
. ABA is
described as adjustments to the design, implementation, and evaluation of
environmental modifications to
ensure socially significant progress in the
individual's
behavior. One of the website that gives a more detailed account of
ABA is www.shapingbehavior.com.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Research
Counsil's (NRC) study, ABA has become widely accepted as the most effective
treatment option available. An effective ABA program should be implemented
25 to 35 hours per week and can range in cost from $50,000 to $75,000 for a
year around school (with some schools charging up to $150,000).  In
adulthood
, the cost of providing year around care and supervised living
arrangements,
can be more than $100,000.

                                       Other Interventions of Interest
Diet
- We strongly suggest to explore dietary interventions such as the Gluten
Free & Casein Free (GFCF) diet to each person researching treatment options.
Many parent's have found the implementation of such a diet very helpful to their
child. ABA Inc. staff does not give advise
on lab testing or implementation of
such a diet;
however, we have provided you with a link to a GFCF diet website in
our Resource page.

Biomedical - Some biomedical interventions have been of help. We have
provided some website links for you to browse through.

Other - There are many interventions you may find on the world wide web. We
have listed some websites in our resource page that may be of interest to you.
